Hello!

Great to hear from our english friends from USA, Ontario or Western Canada!

As our site is in French, we will try to answer the most asked questions here. Please reach out to us for any further information you need.

The Stentors

A summer in a French drum corps is a quite unique and cultural experience that you will enjoy, appreciate and remember for the rest of your life. In drum corps, it is “reaching the South Pole”. Only a few have done it and there is something to be proud about it.

Don’t worry about the size of our corps. It makes for a strong bonding amongst members. It allows it to be very personal, have a flexibility never heard of for bigger unit.

While scores may fool people a bit, we are truly stepping into a professional org. whose admin and members experience is equal with the best of the best!

Of course, our members are usually less experience (there is no marching music activity in Quebec) and a bit younger than our competitors. Our season starts right at the end of the school year (June 20th). Once there, you will be surprise of what can be done, with a smile, in the short summer ahead of us!

  • Tuition is 2300$ CAN.  At time of writing this page, that is equivalent to $1750 US.

That fee included everything but a few items:

      Not included:

    Corps jacket (70$)

Housing in Canada before the move in on June 20th

(Don’t worry, if we are talking of a few days, we will find a family to house you.  Plan a 10$/day for food. If you are thinking of coming a month earlier, you can think of a 100$/week for housing + your food. We will coordinate that for you if you need it. It could be a great experience to visit around in another country for a week or two before starting your drum corps summer!)

    Insurance coverage

    Passport

  • We would love for you to show up for at least 1 camp. However, we are sensible to the extra expense. As long as you provide video of your progress each month and that you follow your paiement schedule, you will be able to join the corps for the summer.

If you decide to come to a camp, think about a 150$ (round trip) for the bus ride between Montreal airport and Sherbrooke where the corps rehearses. Allow a few hours on a bus. We may be able to pick you up but that will need to be coordinated with each candidate.

  • You need to be in Sherbrooke, Quebec on June 20th at night (20h).

  • We usually have 2 weekends off before tour. We will provide housing at no cost for you for those days. However, plan a few dollars for your meals.

  • We have our home show on July 20th. We leave for tour the next day.

The next 3 weeks will be like a tornado! We have 2 exhibitions and 10 competitions.

We plan 1 day off in Boston and another one at the beach.  Those days are covered by your tuition (food and transportation).

  • YES!

Once we have perform in World class prelims in Indianapolis, the corps leaves the next morning to head back home for another “home show”!

We ask that you comeback with the corps to be part of that final performance. You may not understand now, but your season wouln’t be complete without this final show, at home, in front of nearly a 1000 very vocal spectators cheering on you!  Of all the performances you will offer next summer, that one will be the most emotional one of the season. One in a lifetime.  We can’t do it if there are members missing on the field.

Tuition is low at the Stentors. In fact, Stentors is the corps with the lowest tuition/budget relation.  Tuition represents only 14% of the corps budget each year. You will save thousands of dollars marching with us. You will eat better. You will love your close knit experience.  The people who makes it happen financially year in, year out are in the stand on finals night for our home show.  In respect for them and their dedication to the corps, we ask every member to comeback in Sherbrooke for this last one of the summer, even if you live in Indianapolis!!

  • To be announced

  • We will provide this information on an individual request. Just send an email stipulating on what instrument you would like to audition.

  • We aim for a 60-72 member corps.

We limit our membership for a few reasons and all of them have the same basic rational: We want to provide our members with the finest and most positive experience possible.

  • YES!

And we love it. Most of us anyway!

School buses have some perks. It is easier to sleep on the bench and/or the floor.

As the heights of the benches are low, it provides a very family/friendly social expedience while travelling. You can see everyone. You can talk easily with everyone around you.

  • We travel a bit differently than most other corps. We try as much as possible to never come later than 2h00 AM at housing sites.  As an example, we try to leave right after diner if we have a long run that day.

It is socially more fun because you are awake.  Of course we lose some rehearsal time but the corps is in a much better shape the next day to be efficient and happy on the field! That’s the way we do it here.

  • We take members from 12 to 21.  The average is low 16. However, don’t let those numbers fool you. We do rehearse like a top 12. We just got a shorter summer, a younger membership and we don’t sleep in the bus for hours while moving from city to city.

    WE ARE STILL INTENSE.

  • Yes. I would not recommend to travel without a health insurance.

  • Yes. I would not recommend to travel without a health insurance.

  • Yes. You will need it to cross the border.

  • There are a lot of false impression about crossing to Canada. Millions do it every week without a problem. It takes a few minutes to look at your passport and ask “why” you are coming to Canada. There is nothing to hide. You’re coming to a music camp. There is no need to say more. They likely won’t ask more too. They are some silly question sometime. “Do you bring more than 10 000$ in cash”. “Did you visit a farm in the last 10 days”. “How much money are you gonna make while in Canada”.

Really, nothing to worry about except the normal stress to travel to another country. It’s exciting. It’s fun. It’s like going for an adventure. It’s something everyone should do in their life.

  • Of course!!!  And we will credit you with 300$CAN/week per volunteers.

We are looking for drivers (school bus + pick up/fifth wheel trailer) and for cooks.

Places are not guarantied and parents need to submit their interest before we confirmed their participation. Most of the time, it is a question of making sure we have enough people all tour long (not just the championship week).

  • Email is easy (info@stentors.org).

We can also schedule a messenger/zoom/team meeting anytime you need to review all your question face to face. Parents are welcome anytime into the discussion.

Let’s get this thing rolling. Jump on this fantastic opportunity to be part of the sole Canadian french speaking drum corps out there!
